Back to Nature - Some of us Never Left! - Talk by Jonathan Garratt - Thursday 18th July 2013 at 7.00pm.

22 visitors were refreshed on one of the hottest July evenings with a chilled glass of Pimms and treated to a fascinating talk with slides by one of the foremost British Garden Artists, Jonathan Garratt. Jonathan is a real purist - digging and making his own clay, potting on his own hand-made wheels and cutting his own wood to fire his large hand-built brick kiln! He creates wonderful pots, garden sculptures and domestic pottery with his own individual styles and rich earthy-coloured glazes. His pots are frost proof to -20 degrees. Several of our potters were able to cross examine Jonathan to pick up some great tips and received generous advice. We have a wonderful selection currently on sale in Rum's Eg.
Other Previous Events:
Woodturning Demo - on Sunday 2nd June, woodturner David Gibbard, whose beautiful work is on show in the gallery, gave a free demonstration of his craft at the rear of the gallery from 11am to 4pm.
Build a Bug House family workshop - with Richard Rose of Transition Towns on 28th May was a huge success - although the hammering could be heard the other side of Romsey! We hope to hold more workshops like this but may have to wait until we have completed the dedicated Education spaces on the second floor and funding to pay dedicated Education staff (and sound insulation built in between the floors!).
Family Drop in Craft Days in May - at half term children enjoyed a series of bug and insect themed events with drop in sessions led by our Community Artists on 28th and 30th May which included Beaded Wire Dragonflies, Caterpillars & Crawlies and Woodland Masks. They were well attended by children of various ages from 3 to 11 along with their grandparents, carers and parents.
Family Drop in Craft Days in March and April - okay, we don't yet have our purpose built education spaces on the top floor but we couldn't wait any longer! There is plenty of room on our rather rustic 1st floor so we started to hold some informal family drop-in craft events which are proving a great success.
Demonstration Days - these began in February - we are delighted that many of our artists and craftspeople come in to work, demonstrate and chat to customers about their work and techniques on certain days.
Jewellery Cleaning Day - one of our expert, skilled jewellers, Gill Mallett, came in to give advice and spring clean customers jewellery to bring back the sparkle.
